Pubs in West London
Introduction
Here are some of the pubs that I've visited in West London that I've liked.
Please note that as I no longer live in London I don't get to visit London pubs and restaurants as often as I used to. So some of the reviews may have been written a while ago. Alongside each entry I've made a note of when I last visited the pub or restaurant.
As with all the sections on my site, the views expressed here are totally my own.

Hammersmith & Chiswick Pubs
Andover Arms
57 Aldensley Road, W6 - 020 8741 9794
Friendly Fullers pub in the quiet Brackenbury area of Hammersmith
with regular quizzes every Sunday night and occasional live music.
Excellent Thai food every night except Sunday. The beers are kept
well too. Favoured by BBC newsreaders apparently.

Bell & Crown

Popular Fullers pub on the riverside practically into Kew. Food available. Can get busy on sunny weekend afternoons.

Brook Green Hotel
170 Shepherd's Bush Road, W6
Large, high-ceilinged Youngs pub opposite Brook Green, half way between Hammersmith and Shepherds Bush. The interior has been refurbished with striking colours. The beer is kept well and food is available.

The Hammersmith Ram
81 King Street, W6 - 020 8748 4511
Popular Youngs pub on the busy shopping street of Hammersmith. The pub has a standard sized frontage but stretches back a long way so there's plenty of room. Good cheap food available and the beer is kept well too.

The Old Ship
25 Upper Mall, W6 - 020 8748 2593
On the north bank of the Thames almost into Chiswick, the Old Ship is a really popular pub especially during the summer months when half of Hammersmith seems to be here. The atmosphere is easy-going and there are plenty of bar staff which means you don't have to wait for ever to get served. The food is really good and I can never decide between the Moules or the Swordfish. It's a free house with reasonably well kept beers.

The Dove
19 Upper Mall, W6 - 020 8748 5405
Closer to Hammersmith than the Old Ship above but still on the river, lies this fantastic little Fullers pub. The door opens onto a tiny bar at the front, with an even tinier snug through a door off to the right. Up the stairs there's a bigger bar where food is served, and beyond that a conservatory and a two level balcony overlooking the river. The pub can get quite busy at times. "Rule Brittannia" was apparently composed here.

Barnes Pubs
Bull's Head
373 Lonsdale Road, SW13 - 020 8876 5241
Large spacious riverside Young's pub where the beer is kept very well. Friendly, lively atmosphere with plenty of books lying around for drinkers to read. Regular live music (mainly jazz) in the back room. Food available including a roast dinner on Sundays.

White Hart
The Terrace, Riverside, SW13 - 020 8876 5177
Another riverside Young's pub near Barnes Bridge railway station. This one has a terrace and some tables actually on the towpath - ideal for sunny evenings. Food available but you may have to queue for a while if the pub is busy. Good beer.

Putney
Dukes Head
8 Lower Richmond Road, SW15 - 020 8788 2552
Large Young's pub affording views of the river and Putney Bridge nearby. Always busy anyway, but can get really crowded on rowing days. Beer tastes lovely and food is good too.

Shepherds Bush - Pubs & Bars
Crown and Sceptre
57 Melina Road, W12 - 020 8743 6414
Tucked away in a side street off Goldhawk Road, this is a friendly locals pub serving Fullers beers which are kept well. The pub quizzes are really hard!

Shepherds Bush - Restaurants
Esarn Kheaw
314 Uxbridge Road, W12 - 020 8743 8930
A lovely little Thai restaurant which we used to go to regularly. The staff are really friendly and they serve plentiful portions of really tasty food from a large menu. You'll probably need to book on Friday and Saturday nights.

Adam's Café
77 Askew Road, W12 - 020 8743 0572
A little-known restaurant serving a good selection of Morroccan and Tunisian food. Some of the dishes are a like hot stew which is great on cool winter evenings but a bit over the top during the summer. The menu is priced depending on the number of courses you have, but I've never made it as far as the desserts.
